What Is PCOS?
Women with PCOS have ovaries that make more male hormones than normal. These hormones can lead to many small fluid-filled sacs (cysts) in the ovaries. The name polycystic ovary syndrome comes from this. But some women who have PCOS do not have cysts, and some women who have cysts do not have PCOS.

PCOS Explained
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a condition characterized by the presence of multiple fluid-filled cysts around the ovaries, resulting in various complications for women.
PCOS develops due to:
- Excessive androgen production including DHEA and testosterone, which, when in proper balance, support libido, muscle mass and energy. However, an overabundance of testosterone can lead to PCOS and its associated symptoms.
- Imbalance between LH and FSH (Luteinizing Hormone and Follicle Stimulating Hormone). This affects ovulation and menstrual cycles.
- Excessive stress levels lead to increased cortisol production. While cortisol is essential in moderation, excessive amounts can disrupt the regulation of prolactin which is necessary for maintaining hormonal equilibrium.
Signs and Symptoms of PCOS
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) can be difficult to figure out. I can diagnose you with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome when you have at least two of these three signs: irregular periods, an ultrasound showing polycystic ovaries, or blood tests indicating high levels of Androgens.
