Bleeding in early pregnancy can be frightening, but it does not always mean a miscarriage is occurring. 

If you are experiencing spotting or bleeding, cramping, or any other concerns, I will provide careful evaluation and guidance  — without defaulting to emergency care unless it is truly needed.

I offer compassionate, unrushed care to help determine what is happening, what is safe, and what the next steps should be.

Evaluation and early assessment

During this visit, I focus on understanding whether bleeding represents a viable pregnancy with bleeding or an early pregnancy loss, which may include:

• Early ultrasound, when appropriate, to assess pregnancy location, dating, and viability
• A Pelvic Exam
• Targeted lab testing, such as pregnancy hormone levels or other blood work
• Review of symptoms, medical history, and pregnancy timeline
• Clear explanation of findings and what they mean

Bleeding alone does not automatically indicate pregnancy loss, and management decisions are always guided by clinical findings and safety.

Support for bleeding in early pregnancy

When bleeding occurs and the pregnancy has not passed, care may include:

• Close monitoring and follow-up
• Progesterone support, when clinically appropriate
• Guidance on activity, warning signs, and symptom management
• Reassurance and clear parameters for when urgent care is needed

Medical management for pregnancy loss is not initiated unless a loss has been confirmed.

Management options if confirmed pregnancy loss

When an early pregnancy loss has occurred or is confirmed, I provide guidance and support for:

• Expectant management, allowing the body time to pass the pregnancy naturally when safe

• Medical management, oral medication-when appropriate and desired

• Symptom support and follow-up planning. Together, we review options based on safety, timing, and personal preference.

Looking ahead: understanding the “why”

For those who wish to explore underlying causes, I offer follow-up care focused on uncovering potential contributors to pregnancy loss, which may include:

• A structured pregnancy loss evaluation program
• Review of hormonal, thyroid, metabolic, or other contributing factors
• Fetal tissue analysis, when available, to help determine a possible cause
• Thoughtful planning for future pregnancies, when and if you are ready

This care is always optional and guided by your goals and readiness.
