Infant Feeding and Lactation Support

60 minute consultation which may include any combination of the following depending on your method of feeding/feeding plans:

observation of a feeding at breast/chest and/or bottle, positioning + latch assessment
infant weight check and plotting baby on a clinical growth chart, milk transfer and/or bottle feeding instruction
oral exam and structural assessment of baby, breast/nipple exam and treatment if indicated,
counseling on normal newborn behavior, flange fitting/pumping instruction/plan, proper formula prep and guidance on appropriate amounts per age/stage, if indicated, as well as a specialized care plan to meet your lactation/infant feeding needs.
A visit summary note will be sent to your baby’s provider within 24 hours of your consultation.

$175 for in-home visit (40 min travel from the office)

Mastitis Evaluation and Treatment

This focused visit is for established/experienced breastfeeding parents experiencing symptoms of mastitis or breast inflammation when a full lactation consultation is not needed.

During this appointment, I will:

Review symptoms such as breast pain, redness, swelling, fever, chills, or flu-like feelings
Assess for mastitis, inflammatory breast conditions, plugged ducts, engorgement, or concern for abscess
Discuss evidence-based treatment options, including both conventional and integrative approaches
Prescribe Rx medication, including antibiotics, when clinically indicated
Provide targeted guidance to support continued breastfeeding and recovery

For individuals who prefer to avoid antibiotics when it is safe to do so, we may discuss supportive and integrative care options, such as:

Anti-inflammatory measures and breast care strategies
Herbal and Supplemental support
Optimizing milk drainage without overstimulation
Symptom-guided comfort measures
Close monitoring and follow-up to ensure improvement

This visit is ideal for established breastfeeding parents who are confident with latch and feeding mechanics but need prompt medical evaluation and individualized treatment for breast inflammation or infection.

If feeding difficulties, latch concerns, milk transfer issues, or complex breastfeeding challenges are present, a full lactation consultation may be recommended instead.

Dr. Alyssa Dickerson is a Certified Nurse-Midwife, IBCLC and a dedicated Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) based in Huntington, Indiana, bringing compassionate care to her community since the onset of the pandemic in Spring 2020. With the growing need for innovative healthcare solutions, Alyssa stepped up to provide alternative access to essential services.

She earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2023 from Missouri State University, following her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Frontier Nursing University in 2019. A Registered Nurse since 2013, Alyssa has honed her skills in both Cardiac and Labor & Birth nursing, ensuring comprehensive, whole-person care for her patients.

Recently, she collaborated with a talented team of OBGYNs and CNMs, focusing on fertility and midwifery care. Alyssa has provided prenatal support and attended births in both a CABC-certified out-of-hospital birthing center and a hospital setting. Over the past four years, she has been a pillar of support in her community, offering services in out-of-hospital births, women's health, and mental health, as well as new family coaching, newborn care, and childbirth education.

Alyssa is passionate about learning languages, teaching, and fostering connections through therapeutic communication, all while cherishing time with her family. Her practice emphasizes evidence-based approaches to childbirth, tailored to the unique needs of local families during their transformative journeys.

Her strengths lie in her empathy, ability to connect with others, and her optimistic perspective. Alyssa specializes in Linguistics, Perinatal Mental Health, and offers services in Spanish and English alongside her expertise in new family coaching and leadership.
